Press Release

London- Los Angeles- Dubai

June 20, 2008

In full support of the drive by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers http://icann.org  also known as “ICANN”  in its  International Outreach for Public Participation, especially from the International Domain Names (IDNs) regions of the world, Live Multilingual Translator http://livemultilingualtranslator.com  is pleased to announce that it will translate the ICANN website to Arabic, Live and online, for a period of 30 days to coincide with the ICANN Paris meeting and in full support of ICANN's drive and effort. Khaled Fattal, Chairman and CEO of Live Multilingual Translator who also serves on the ICANN President Advisory Committee on Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) and who also holds the position of Chairman and CEO of the Multilingual Internet Names Consortium (MINC)  said : " We wish to show our support for ICANN's drive and its efforts to truly internationalize itself and we want to empower more than 300 million Arabs where more than 80%   do not know any English, as well as 1.2 billion Muslims around the world whose native languages are not Arabic but do learn Arabic to read the Quran and where more than 90% of them do not know any English either. We want to Empower them to become able to read in Arabic any English websites they were unable to reach or read before so that they can follow up and take part in the latest developments in areas that will affect their cultures, languages and most importantly their future on the Internet within ICANN and elsewhere. Our mission is to help them take active roles in what affects their lives now and in the future. We recognize that this is not a full solution to break down the language barriers of the net, but we have turned what was once impossible into a reality that is a huge milestone for mankind to bridge the digital divide”.

ICANN’s General Manager for Public Participation, Kieren McCarthy said: “A key part of ICANN’s Translation Programme is to develop ways of working with its global community to provide information in other languages. We’re always pleased to see proactive community efforts and will be looking at Live Multilingual Translator to see what may be learnt from it. People who want to provide ICANN with feedback on this or any other aspect of its translation work, can attend the special session on Thursday 26 June at 1pm in Paris.”

Fattal concluded:" Although we are a For-profit company, we chose to do this in the same spirit of our support of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and their Geneva IGF and Brazil IGF websites which we are translating to Arabic at Live Multilingual Translator."
